Creating a city for young people and families

A Balanced Bathurst means being attractive to young families; creating a city that embraces family values and provides opportunity for youth.

Young people and families.

As more and more tree changing families choose to stay and raise their children in Bathurst, there is an increasing demand for schools and childcare. We need to increase our investment in childcare facilities and advocate to the State Government to invest in new schools in areas with growing populations.

Investing in childcare and out of school care is crucial to the workforce participation of parents, early childhood development and ensures low-income parents are not driven to place their children in unsafe environments.

Our children and young people will inherit the city we create, so we should ensure they have a say in their future by consulting with them in the development of Bathurst's next strategic plan.

Parks and recreation.

The Bathurst region has around 50 parks and playgrounds and has invested well in improving and expanding nearly all of its parks and sporting facilities, but we can do better.

As Bathurst continues to grow, we need to strategically design our development planning controls to ensure parks and recreational areas are developed simultaneously with new housing. The first residents moving into a new estate shouldn't need to wait years to use promised recreational areas.
