Bathurst Health Network.

We need to strengthen our health network for a growing population.

Our local health system has some incredible wins at times, due to the dedication and professionalism of our local health workers and staff.

However, at times we are prone to failures - mostly due to lack of resources or inefficient systems and processes.

Building a strong health network is not just the responsibility of the NSW Government - Bathurst Regional Council must endeavour to create an attractive investment environment for the private sector, alleviating pressure from the public services.

Allied and private health.

The private sector provides a mix of goods and services including: direct provision of health services, medicines and medical products, training for the health workforce, medical information technology, infrastructure and support services - an absolutely critical partner to our public health system.

We need to attract allied health professionals to our city - building the proposed private medical centre on Howick street is the first step in our renewed health story. Council must back projects like this unconditionally.

Retire with freedom and support.

Positive ageing embraces the idea of being active, connected, valued and respected as you grow older in your community.

We need to do better to respect, appreciate and give back to our elderly.

We’ve always been told to respect our elders. We should do so by creating a caring and inclusive environment for our ageing citizens.

The World Health Organisation’s Age-Friendly Cities Framework highlights eight domains that contribute to creating an age-friendly community:

  • Transport

  • Social Participation

  • Respect and Social Inclusion

  • Housing

  • Communication and Information

  • Community Support and Health Services

  • Civic Participation and

  • Employment Outdoor Spaces and Buildings

The economic, social and health and wellbeing impacts of the pandemic have the potential to affect our community for a long time. We need to develop a strategy that plays a key role in directing efforts towards ensuring our community is one where older people can continue to thrive, contribute and be appreciated.

What do you think of our health system?
