Local issues.
Important issues.
Projects, infrastructure and specific policies in our region that we think deserve a closer look.
Roads.
Hereford Street - New alternate access road across the flood plain, from Kelso to Bathurst - plus dual lane Hereford St, Gilmour intersection upgrade and new bridge to ease peak hour congestion.
Eglinton Road future planning to account for growth.
Livestock freight access processes must be improved for our farmers. If weight limits apply that compromise productivity, roads should be assessed and upgraded.
Community & Infrastructure.
Our old Ambulance Station is a charming heritage asset in the CBD and deserves to be put to use to welcome visitors to town.
Think restaurant, ‘buy local’ shop, or community health or art space!Prioritise the construction of the new soccer fields, behind Mackillop College, at Proctor Park Bathurst.
Reinvigorate our CBD by finding a realistic use for the old TAFE building. Such an asset could be attractive to private investors, if offered 30+ year leases - the same can be said for
the old Gasworks Site - which has stood still for too long. Let’s get on with remediation this prime piece of real estate and put it to use.
Health.
Continue discussions for a new Private Medical Centre. We can’t let the idea of a new private health asset, that was earmarked for the old Ford Clancy site, just go to waste. We need to work with the developer to find a solution.
Facilitate a strengthened line of communication and relationship between Bathurst Hospital and NSW Health, with the aim of enhancing our local health system.
Tourism & Culture.
Pivot our tourism marketing approach by becoming known for hosting major cultural events; focusing on music, sport and art. Promote a family-friendly city with a focus on sports-tourism and attracting and fostering tournaments.
Attract high-calibre promoters, with the aim to host more major concerts (of Elton John calibre), and expand our arrangements with the NRL.
Continue to nurture and grow our amazing Winter Festival; explore the opportunities of hosting a Festival of Summer, potentially hosted at Ben Chifley Dam alongside private partners.
